Licensing renewed after council serves 350 legal notices to landlords
Enfield Council is extending its HMO Licensing Scheme for another five years, starting on September 1. The scheme, alongside the mandatory licensing system, aims to enhance the safety and quality of shared housing for private renters. Since its inception in 2020, it has led to over 1,100 licences being granted out of 1,200 applications, with 70% of inspected properties requiring improvements in fire safety, electrical standards, and overcrowding issues. The council has issued 350 legal notices and acted against 13 landlords for rule violations. The renewed scheme aims to continue ensuring safe, well-managed homes while holding landlords accountable.
