Labour council consulting on new HMO licensing regime

Brent Council is seeking feedback from landlords, tenants, and residents on proposed plans to improve living conditions in Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). This initiative follows a previous five-year licensing programme, which licensed over 2,500 HMOs and ended in January.

The proposed additional licensing scheme would apply to HMOs housing three or more people from different households, aiming to ensure safety and quality standards. Councillor Fleur Donnelly-Jackson highlights the growth of private rental homes, which now make up nearly half of all housing in Brent, as a key reason for maintaining such schemes.

The consultation runs until 26 May 2025, encouraging community input on these new proposals.
