How removal firms helped buyers beat the Stamp Duty deadline

Last week saw a surge in home moves, with an estimated 52,653 people relocating ahead of the return of lower Stamp Duty thresholds. This marked a 92% increase compared to the first quarter average, far surpassing the 60% spike recorded in 2024.

Removals firms worked overtime to meet the demand, with some, like Home Moovers in Ruislip, offering innovative solutions such as temporary storage and delayed delivery. Sure Removals in Essex reported overwhelming demand, even receiving calls for help from other firms.

Rob Houghton, CEO of reallymoving, noted that April is expected to be a slower month due to budget constraints caused by Stamp Duty hikes, which could also lead to transaction collapses and chain disruptions if completions aren’t timely. Conveyancing firms are under significant strain as a result.
