Council charges £500 to apply for a licence and £300 to issue it

Mansfield council is introducing a selective licensing scheme for private rented properties, requiring landlords to hold licences and meet minimum accommodation standards. The scheme applies to approximately 1,200 properties and aims to address issues such as poor living conditions, antisocial behaviour, and rogue landlords.

The licensing scheme begins on September 13, 2025, and runs until September 10, 2030. Landlords can apply for a licence starting June 12, with an application fee of £500 and an issuing fee of £300, totaling £800. Early applicants can receive a £50 discount, and members of recognised accreditation schemes get an additional £100 discount.

The council plans to use licensing conditions and enforcement powers to improve housing quality and will collaborate with landlords and residents to enhance the area.
