Landlord in court after failing to licence 29 flats
Landlord Olawunmi Odunaiya was fined £29,000 and ordered to pay additional costs, totaling £47,560, for failing to license 29 flats under Charnwood Borough Council’s selective licensing scheme in Loughborough. Despite multiple reminders and guidance from the council, she only licensed 4 of the 33 flats she owned in the building. Odunaiya cited financial difficulties due to building repairs and fire safety upgrades as reasons for non-compliance. The council emphasized the importance of licensing to uphold standards for tenants and warned landlords of enforcement actions if they fail to comply. Odunaiya has 28 days to appeal.
